Recently, I got a homemade ice cream maker, and I am so excited about all the yummy GF flavors I’ll be able to make for my kiddo: Cookies n’ Cream, S’mores, Brownie! With a little bit of planning, it’s super easy to make, and even more delicious to eat. I found this recipe from Cuisinart (the ice cream maker I use), and added in the GF Oreos. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, don’t worry! I’ve collected several helpful lists of GF ice cream brands. We love Haagen Dazs in particular because they come in small mini-cups perfect for kids, and say GF right on the label. If you want to branch out, check out the certified GF list of Ben and Jerry’s flavors, a very comprehensive GF ice cream list from Celiac.com, and a lengthy list of GF options from Breyer’s.
The great thing about this flavor from Cuisinart is it’s basically a blank canvas for anything you want to make or toss in. I put crushed Oreo’s in at the end, however you could easily toss in crushed GF cookies, chocolate chips, or essentially anything your GF heart desires!
Cuisinart Classic Vanilla Ice Cream
1 Cup whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
Pinch of Kosher salt
2 Cups heavy cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 Cup crushed GF Oreos
*If you have an ice cream maker, make sure you freeze the insert bowl at least overnight before making your ice cream.
In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer on low speed or whisk to combine 1 cup milk, 3/4 cup sugar and pinch Kosher salt until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in 2 cups heavy cream and 2 teaspoons vanilla. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours, preferably overnight (I did 2 hours). Whisk mixture together again before continuing.
Assemble the ice cream maker, turn on, and pour the chilled ice cream mixture into the churning bowl. Let churn for 15-20 minutes, or until you see your desired ice cream consistency. At this point, gradually add 1 cup crushed Oreo’s, scoop, and enjoy!
(If you want to go all in on the at home ice cream making operation, don’t forget containers!)
How fun!!! I love cookie and cream, so it’s great to see a recipe for a gluten-free option.
Looks like an easy recipe with a delicious outcome in minutes! Yum!
